For Those With Lots of Experience Wallpapering

DoItYourself.com has a pretty good article on removing wallpaper. Of course, there are different wall materials, walls that have from a single layer to multiple layers of wallpaper, and different types of wallpaper.

If you have experience wallpapering, what method/materials have you found the best when it comes to making wallpaper removal a little easier?

Ok, this is what I do for difficult wall paper removal. I use a wall paper tiger found at Walmart or other type store.I spray the wall an area at a time with a mister bottle of water.Let it set for maybe 1 or 2 minutes then use a wall paper scraper. That should remove the top layer of vinyl then repeat for the paper backing the same steps.Ifg it is paper and not vinyl it should come off first time.

i never ventured into the idea of wallpapering. removing them is a tough task and it was one reason that kept me away from using wallpapers. and also i have seen in some houses that the paper gets torn from the middle and a patch comes up in its place and it looks really awful. so am better without using them.

Years ago I used to "score" the paper with a scraper and then used a sponge to really wet the walls to make removal easier. An extremely messy process. :(

Nowadays you can buy steamers to remove wallpaper, you hold a metal plate that releases steam, against the wall and it lifts the paper making it easier to scrape off. Again, scoring the walls first helps to speed the job up.
