Default Decorating on a Budget

Besides shopping at stores known for offering nice items at clearance or discounted prices, sometimes nice decorating accents can be found at places like church fairs, flea markets, or even dollar stores.

One trick I used when I was a young, working, person was to use lots of inexpensive plants (like philodendron) as accents. Wicker and straw can usually be found fairly inexpensively.

Craft stores or the craft departments at discount department stores often offer things you can put together to make something like a wall hanging. Unpainted wooden shapes of one sort or another, a stick-on hook, and some 50 cents/bottle craft paints can become a wall hanging (or door hanging) of your preference if you add a couple of silk flowers and a ribbon. (One stem or bunch of silk or dried flowers can be taken apart and used for different things.)

Buying inexpensive glass vases and painting them can make a pretty vase.
