anyone ever used kerosene heaters??? they are the most effective heaters but produce a lot of smoke. me and my friends used those heaters when we stayed for couple of months on a glacier.

I'm sure I wouldn't use one of those for the house, but I've used them, yes. We usually do that when we have a family gathering in my sister's finished garage. It's a great place for parties and those heaters work great, but I wouldn't suggest leaving them unattended inside a house. I don't like the fumes too much, either.

we had no options when we lived on a glacier except for the kerosene heater.no electricity so had to do with this one. we had a chimmney connected so that the fumes wouldnt stay inside the makeshift room.

We use a couple of oil filled radiators in winter to heat our lounge, as even with the central heating on the room stays chilly. They actually run on electricity and are quite safe, but not neccessarily cheap to run, but they do help heat the room.
Installing heavy weight curtains would help keep the heat from escaping in winter and help keep the room cool in summer, unless it's like my room ,which never ever seems to get very warm.
