Default I Want to Build a Deck!

We'd like to build a small deck in the back of the house. Can anyone recommend how to start, or at least where to find more information about it? Is there a website for projects like this, with plans and so on?

Default Building A Deck - Information Sources

A good basic article can be found at:

http://www.contentmart.com/articles...Building-Basics

This article may best describe what you need to do first.

Sites that really cover deck-building are:

HandymanUSA.com

Askthebuilder.com

ehow.com

doityourself.com

english-gardening.com

kighthomecenter.com

www.suite101.com/article

www.acehardware.com/sm-building-your-deck

Wow, that's quite a list... thank you for listing all that! It's nice to be able to have a blueprint complete with all materials listed instead of just thinking you know what will be involved.

Thing about laying decking is that you probably need to consult somone as to whether the ground you are working on is suitable for decking to be laid.

A deck would make a nice addition to any home and is a great DIY project too. If you need a plan for one try this site... http://www.dekbrands.com/plans/index.cfm... they're free. Some general instructions can be found here... http://www.freeww.com/decks.html.

Excellent resources that you guys are providing, makes life so much easier. Not always in the mood to search for things on the internet. So many places where you first have to register and this and that before you can read the articles.

Thank you, 10cents! I'll be sure to check these sites out. Free is always nice. :-) I can't wait to have a deck where I can put some kind of swing, lawn furniture, and of course the customary bbq grill!

Hey, that's a neat resource you found and it's not only for decks too. Most DIY projects are covered there and with free plans. I've been looking for instructions on something like this...

and it's right there... http://www.buildeazy.com/bridge.html

You guys are making me want to build a deck too! And a bridge! Now, if I only had a big backyard with some water to put a bridge over...
