Default Skirting Boards

Now i am, it as to be said not the best DIYer, but i had a go at attaching my own skirting boards to the walls. I have matched it to the ground but when it comes to screwing them in, they always come out slightly off the ground at some point in each board!!

Have you got any suggestions as to what i can do to prevent this?

Thanks

You may be tightening the screws too much, which could cause the board to pull on either side of the screws.
Have you tried using grab adhesive, apparently it's the modern mans nails.
